🔥 Weekend Competition Recap

We had a strong showing this past weekend with athletes competing across multiple high-level events.

At the Spartan Duals in Vermont:

  • Steven Calderon and Antero Encarnacion competed for 518 Annihilate

  • Lawerence Downer competed for Green Mountain

A big congratulations to Lawerence Downer, who went 4–1 on the weekend and earned his first official varsity-level wins as an 8th grader. That is a huge milestone. Getting varsity-level experience before even stepping into a varsity lineup is invaluable. It accelerates development, builds confidence, and prepares athletes for the level they are working toward. This is exactly the type of challenge that pays off long term.

At the National Freestyle Duals in New Jersey:

  • Austin Brinkman stepped onto the national stage and gained high-level experience against top competition.

At the Battle at Burnt Hills:

  • Arabella Frey took 1st place in the 14U freestyle division, defeating an opponent nearly 20 pounds heavier, winning the series 2 out of 3 matches. That’s toughness, composure, and belief.

  • Joe Riley also had a very strong performance and continues to show growth each time he competes.

Great job to everyone who stepped on the mat this weekend. Competing at different levels and environments is how we grow.

⚔️ Upcoming Competitions

Ravena Duals (This Weekend)

We are currently planning to bring one team, and spots are filling up quickly.

If you’re interested in competing, contact Coach El ASAP to confirm your spot.

Mohawk Valley Tournament (Freestyle & Greco)

Coach Dom will be taking athletes to Mohawk Valley for those who want to compete.

  • We strongly encourage all girls to compete

  • Any athletes not on the Ravena Duals team should look to compete here

This is a great opportunity to continue getting matches and building experience.

🏆 Freestyle & Greco State Championships

Freestyle & Greco States are coming up soon. As a club, our primary focus remains on continuing to develop and sharpen our folkstyle foundation.

However:

  • If you have goals of competing at Fargo, this is a required qualifier

  • Coach Lamountain will be taking the group of athletes pursuing that path

If that applies to you, reach out to Coach El for details.

For everyone else, we will be announcing an alternative tournament option in the coming days.

🧠 Weekly Mindset Adjustment

Progress in wrestling is not linear.

Some weekends you feel unstoppable. Everything clicks. You’re scoring, you’re confident, and you see the results of your work.

Other weekends don’t go your way. You take losses, things feel off, and it can be frustrating.

That’s part of the process.

The key is learning how to zoom out.

If you only judge yourself by a single weekend, you miss the bigger picture. Growth happens over time. It happens through tough matches, close losses, and uncomfortable situations.

Real progression comes from:

  • Wrestling tough competition

  • Identifying where things break down

  • Making adjustments in the practice room

  • Coming back better the next time

But none of that happens unless you’re honest.

Honest with yourself about what needs work.

Honest with your coaches so we can help guide you.

There’s no shortcut to improvement. The athletes who get better are the ones who embrace the process, stay consistent, and keep showing up ready to learn.

Stay focused. Stay disciplined. Trust the work.
